A pack for UK accountants, bookkeepers and tax advisers who chase clients by hand for their Making Tax Digital for Income Tax records.
Use it this quarter and adapt it next quarter. You don't need any software.
The kit comes from Recordsin, a quarterly records-chaser we're building for small UK practices. Clients reply to an email with attachments. Reminders go out on day 7, 14 and 21 and list what is still missing. There is no client portal. To hear when it opens, join the waitlist at https://recordsin.co.uk.
Pricing when it opens: Solo £29 a month for up to 50 clients, Practice £59 a month, and Founding £240 a year for the first 20 practices.
Recordsin is run by Matthew Johnston, a sole trader in Northern Ireland. Contact hello@recordsin.co.uk.

How to use it this quarter (Q2 2026/27)
The quarter ended on 5 October 2026. The deadline is 7 November 2026.
- Open chase-sheet.csv in Excel, Numbers or Google Sheets. Add every MTD client with their name, email and income type.
- Pick the right checklist from checklists.md for each client: self-employment, property, or both.
- Send the first request email from email-templates.md and log the date on the sheet.
- On day 7, 14 and 21, filter the sheet for anyone still missing items and send the matching reminder. Update Missing items, Last chased and Next chase.
- Move anyone who still hasn't replied after day 21 to Needs a call.
- When a client is complete, mark them Done. File their attachments in your usual folder or practice software, then file the quarterly update the way you do now.
You don't need every client on day 0. Start with the ones who were late last quarter.
What this kit is not
- It is not legal or tax advice. The checklists are starting points. Edit them to match what you need from each client.
- It is not HMRC software and it does not file anything. You or your MTD software still send the quarterly update.
- It is not affiliated with HMRC. Making Tax Digital is an HMRC programme.
Next quarters
The same files work for Q3, due 7 February 2027, and Q4, due 7 May 2027. Change {{deadline}} and {{quarter}} in the emails, clear the status columns on the sheet, and run the schedule again from the day after the quarter ends.
Recordsin automates the same loop. It sends one checklist email the day after the quarter ends, sends reminders that list what is still missing, and shows the status of every client in one place.
