Content Snare or RecordsIn
Updated 25 October 2026.
RecordsIn makes this page. Last checked 25 October 2026. Names belong to their owners.
This page is for the owner of a small UK practice who is choosing how to collect MTD quarterly records. The Content Snare lines below are quoted from Content Snare's own pages.
Price
Solo is £29 a month, for up to 50 clients. Practice is £59 a month, for up to 200 clients. Solo and Practice include a 14-day trial, once per practice. You add a card at checkout. Founding is £240, paid once, for 12 months of Practice, for the first 20 practices. The same prices are on the home page.
Content Snare publishes its prices in US dollars. All prices in USD. Pound prices are not listed on the Content Snare pricing page. This page does not convert those prices into pounds, and it does not call either price cheaper.

What an active request is
Think of a request as a form that you send to your client, asking for any amount of content, information or files.
Plans are limited by the number of requests that are active at the same time. Active requests are ones that your clients can access and fill out.
Say your limit was 50. You could send 50 requests right away. If a week later you mark them as "complete" or "archived", you'd be able to send 50 more.
Four quarters in a year do not each count at the same time, unless those requests stay open together. You can trial the product for free for 14 days with no credit card.
How the client sends records
The practice starts a quarter from the quarter screen. RecordsIn emails that client's checklist and asks the client to reply with the records. After a practice has started once, RecordsIn can send the next checklist the day after the quarter ends.
The client does not log in. There is no client portal, and there is no page where the client uploads the files.
Reminders go out on day 7, day 14 and day 21. Each one lists only what is still missing. The day 21 email also asks the client for a call. RecordsIn does not send a reminder when nothing is still missing.
RecordsIn files each attachment to that client and that quarter. You download a ZIP of the accepted files. RecordsIn does not file with HMRC, and it does not ask for HMRC credentials. You file the quarterly update in the software you already use. See how that fits the software you already use.
RecordsIn builds the checklist from the client's income type. That is self-employment, UK property, or both.
Content Snare's pages describe a link for the client.
Your clients get a link where they can access their request at any time from any device.
No. Clients access their portal through a secure link. No login, no password, no app to install.
Reminders
Set up as many email reminders as you like for each request.
That's totally up to you. There is a default communication template that defines how frequently your clients are sent reminders, but you can create as many as you like.
Content Snare follows up on the schedule you set, by email and SMS, until the client is done.
Yes. Reminders only go out for items that are still outstanding. Once a client completes their request, reminders stop automatically.
What the product covers
Approve questions or send them back for changes if needed.
It’s not accounting or MTD software as such, but rather a client data collection tool for gathering documents and information as painlessly as possible.
Schedule requests to repeat automatically each quarter so you never have to rebuild them from scratch.
We’re currently preparing a set of 20 MTD-specific templates designed for common UK reporting workflows, so firms don’t need to build requests from scratch.
When Content Snare fits better
Content Snare is the better choice if the work is broader than one quarter's records and the client should open a link. The Basic row includes a user count, so more than one person can create requests.
When RecordsIn fits better
RecordsIn is the better choice if you want the client to reply to your email with the files, with no login and no portal, and you want the practice price in pounds. The reminders stay on day 7, day 14 and day 21, and each one lists only what is still missing.
